In 17 years as an employment lawyer, Eric Packel has experienced nothing like it. The Polsinelli Shughart PC lawyer said the businesses he represents are seeing an unprecedented level of wage-hour enforcements by the U.S. Department of Labor.
“It’s a shot across the bow of employers,” he said. The department is making sure that companies are properly compensating workers for overtime, and Packel said the department might give employers only a week or two of advance notice before auditors show up to review various payroll records.
