Greg Durbin is a patent attorney and the vice chair of Polsinelli Shughart’s Science and Technology group. He is an electrical engineer working with a variety of clients ranging from individuals to multinational companies involved with a vast range of technologies including multi-core and multi-threaded processors, alternative energy, medical devices, semiconductor fabrication, software, battery charging, photovoltaic solar cells, media technology, Internet and networking technology, satellite communications and various other computer, electrical and mechanical systems.
As a practicing engineer before heading off to law school, Mr. Durbin worked as a technician in a data center, in plastic molding and metal stamping and was extensively involved in some of the early research and development of electric and hybrid vehicles. He worked in the Ecostar electric vehicle program at Ford and has a deep understanding of battery management systems, battery technology, electric vehicle charging and infrastructure, electric vehicle drive electronics and other electric and hybrid vehicle technologies and issues surrounding transforming an economy and infrastructure focused on gasoline-powered vehicles to one supporting electricity-driven vehicles.
Mr. Durbin manages U.S. and international patent portfolios, and works with an extensive team of associates, agents and paralegals to manage portfolios. Besides patent prosecution, he often helps clients assess patent infringement risks and develop effective solutions to address the risks, including responding to demand letters, designing around patents, assessing the validity of patents, and licensing. Mr. Durbin also works with clients and other Polsinelli Shughart attorneys to enforce and defend patent rights through reexamination, as well as litigation. He brings his breadth of technical, business and legal experience together to work with clients in just about any business pursuit that involves patents and other intellectual property rights.
