The national law firm of Polsinelli Shughart PC welcomes bankruptcy attorney Mary B. Martin to the firm as of counsel where she will practice in the firm’s Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring practice. Martin is part of the firm’s commitment to expand the corporate capabilities in the Phoenix office. She brings 12 years of experience and will assist clients with business restructuring, insolvency and bankruptcy matters. She primarily represents financially troubled companies in both out-of-court workouts and Chapter 11 reorganizations, and is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute.

“Mary is a welcome addition to our expanding bankruptcy practice,” said Marty Harper, managing partner of the firm’s Phoenix office. “Her addition is indicative of our commitment to clients and the challenging economic conditions. Mary’s experience complements our existing team of bankruptcy attorneys and allows us to further provide services from a deep bench of attorneys with sophisticated corporate capabilities.”

Martin is a 1998 graduate of California Western School of Law where she was recognized with the American Jurisprudence Award in legal writing. She earned her undergraduate degree at University of Arizona in 1994. Prior to starting her practice in 1998, Martin served as a judicial extern for The Honorable George B. Nielsen, Jr. of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona. She is a member of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the Arizona State Bar and has articles published in the area of financial restructuring.

“Polsinelli Shughart’s presence in key bankruptcy markets, its entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to outstanding client services were reasons for me joining the firm,” said Martin.

The Phoenix office of Polsinelli Shughart has increased by more than one-third since the beginning of 2010, expanding to 50 attorneys. In addition, the firm significantly expanded its Environmental and Natural Resources, and Insurance and Bad/Faith Litigation practices, providing more depth of services to its clients.

“Polsinelli Shughart is a first generation law firm, and the energy and enthusiasm are very high. Our lawyers want to participate in building a law firm in Phoenix that provides what the business community wants and needs today, as well as what they may need in the future,” said Harper.

Martin is a good source for reporters working on stories about:

  • Steps involved in a bankruptcy filing
  •  Differences between Chapter 11 vs. Chapter 7 bankruptcy filings
  •  Proactive planning to avoid bankruptcy
