Polsinelli Shughart PC welcomes attorney Dana M. Lach as a shareholder in the firm’s Financial Services department where she will counsel health care and other nonprofit organizations in complex finance and commercial lending transactions.

“Polsinelli Shughart is committed to the recruitment of talented attorneys like Dana to enhance and further expand our depth of financial services to our health care industry clients,” said Daniel J. Flanigan, chair of the firm’s Financial Services department. “Clients and prospective clients will welcome our enhanced ability to serve them in this important financial arena.”

Lach joins a deep bench of attorneys with knowledge in all aspects and phases of tax-exempt financing matters for non-profits, including health care providers and educational and cultural facilities. Lach will work closely with fellow health care financial services attorneys Janet E. Zeigler, who also practices in the Chicago office of Polsinelli Shughart, as well as Jessica Jacob Zaiger, who practices in Kansas City.

Lach has focused her practice on representation of borrowers, issuers, investment banks and financial institutions in both taxable and tax-exempt securities nationwide. Serving as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, issuer’s counsel or borrower’s counsel, she has participated in more than 100 health care securities transactions totaling more than $13 billion. As a result, Lach has experience with virtually all types of financing vehicles, including derivative transactions, securitizations and privatizations.

Lach also has counseled health care and other nonprofit organizations on post-issuance compliance matters, including ongoing tax and securities law compliance, and has represented nonprofit organizations in connection with restructuring transactions.

“Polsinelli Shughart’s national reach and strong health care representation provides an excellent platform to further develop and grow my practice,” Lach said. “It’s an honor to join the talented Polsinelli Shughart Financial Services department, and I look forward to collaborating with the firm’s knowledgeable and dynamic health care attorneys.”

Lach earned her law degree, cum laude, in 1999 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School. She received her bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago in 1994.

Lach is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the American Health Lawyers Association, Women in Public Finance and the American Bar Association. She was a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP in Milwaukee, Wis., before joining Polsinelli Shughart.

Lach is an excellent source for reporters working on stories about:

• Tax-exempt finance and bond issuance in capital markets
• Use of derivatives by health care borrowers
• Post issuance compliance for tax-exempt organizations
