Hospital|Physician Alignment Strategies to Perform Well Under Health Reform

The reimbursement paradigm is changing. Both CMS and private payors are transforming payment policy by changing its role from a passive payor of services to an active purchaser of high value health care. The implementation of programs like the hospital quality reporting, value-based purchasing, readmissions reduction, and hospital-acquired conditions programs are placing the onus on providers to improve both efficiency and quality of care. CMS is utilizing the so-called "stick" approach to incentivize quality improvement. Now, due to these programs, poorly performing providers will begin losing reimbursement this year and could lose up to 6 percent in reimbursement by FY 2017.

Hospitals cannot perform well under the new reimbursement paradigm without buy-in from physicians. Thus, it is essential that they enlist the support of physicians in order to meet these targets and thrive in this changing regulatory environment. This complimentary hour-long presentation will discuss the changing reimbursement paradigm as well as some of the ways providers can affiliate with physicians to improve reimbursement. The topics will include:

  • The Hospital Quality Reporting Programs
  • Value-Based Purchasing Program
  • Readmissions Reduction Program
  • Hospital-Acquired Conditions Penalties
  • Hospital-Physician Alignment Strategies including, "Pay for Quality" programs, Co-Management Agreements, Gainsharing, Clinical Integration, and Accountable Care Organizations
