Lawyers Encouraging Academic Performance (LEAP) will help children at Operation Breakthrough leap into the new school year. LEAP is providing backpacks, school supplies, bookmarks and breakfast by Chris Cakes, a pancake-flipping favorite in the metropolitan area. The Back to School Breakfast is Friday, August 5 from 7:30 am to 9:00 am at Operation Breakthrough, 3039 Troost, Kansas City, Missouri. Polsinelli Shughart is one of the sponsors.
The media is invited to attend. Weather permitting, the event will be held outside on the east patio of Operation Breakthrough. Access can be gained by going to the rear of Operation Breakthrough from Troost on 30th Street to Forest. Parking is available in the church parking lot across the street.
In addition to backpacks, school supplies and bookmarks, the legal community will donate money to Operation Breakthrough to assist with purchasing school uniforms and additional school supplies as they are needed throughout the year. More than 400 children from Operation Breakthrough are expected to attend the Back to School Breakfast, and lawyers and judges from around the metro will serve the children breakfast.
“Every child wants to start off the school year with a new backpack, fresh school supplies and something nice to wear,” said Sister Berta Sailor, co-founder of Operation Breakthrough, a nonprofit that assists low income families in the metro. “We’re so pleased that once again the legal community has stepped up to the plate to aid with helping make that a reality for our children.”
Interview opportunities include:
• Co-Founder of Operation Breakthrough Sister Berta Sailer
• LEAP Chair of the Back to School Initiative: Anne-Linton Pond Hendrickson, Van Osdol & McGruder, P.C.
• LEAP Vice Chair of Back to School Initiative Kim Fournier: Office of the Missouri Attorney General
“We would like to thank the legal community, Staples and Office Essentials for the generous donations they made throughout the summer,” said Pond Hendrickson. “It is a good feeling to know we are helping these children begin the school year prepared and ready to do their best.”
