Attorney T. Jack Challis received the Missouri Bar Association’s “President’s Award” on Friday, October 19, 2012 at The Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark. The ceremony, which concluded the association’s 2012 Annual Meeting and Judicial Conference, honors judges, lawyers and others who, through their work, epitomize the finest traditions of public service and professionalism.

“The contributions Jack has made to the field of estate planning throughout his career are truly outstanding,” said Randy S. Gerber, managing director of the St. Louis office of Polsinelli Shughart. “I am honored and proud to call him a colleague. He is very deserving of this honor and I congratulate him on this significant milestone.”

Challis, a shareholder in the firm’s St. Louis office, specializes in the area of wealth planning and administration. He assists clients with estate and trust planning, probate administration, trust administration, and estate, gift and income tax planning. Challis completed his law degree cum laude at Saint Louis University and received a bachelor of science from Creighton University. He was admitted to the Missouri bar in 1972. Subsequent admissions include the United States Supreme Court in 1978 and the U.S. Tax Court in 1992.

Challis has written numerous articles and presentations on the topic of estate planning and has served as an adjunct professor at Saint Louis University School of Law. For the past five years, Challis has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America®, Trust and Estates. St. Louis Magazine also named him a “Five Star Wealth Manager” in both 2011 and 2012. Challis is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell.

Challis is actively involved in the St. Louis community and has served on numerous nonprofit boards including the American Heart Association, Cardinal Ritter Senior Services and Alzheimer’s Association of St. Louis. In addition, he has been a member of the Saint Louis University Bequest and Gift Council, Children’s Hospital Planned Giving Council, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital Gift Planning Committee and the Estate Planning Board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Board of Governors of the Missouri Bar Association established the President’s Awards in 1965. They are awarded annually, by choice of the president, to one or more members of the state bar who have contributed significantly during the past year to the organization and its leadership. Nominations are at the President's discretion. Attorney Lynn Whaley Vogel served as president of the Missouri Bar during the past year.
