Missouri Lawyers Weekly has selected Polsinelli Shughart attorney Grace S. Day as its 2011 Women's Justice Award "Woman of the Year." The state's largest legal newspaper selected Day for her commitment to family law spanning six decades. At 84, Day is one of the oldest practicing attorneys in the state. She practices in the firm's St. Joseph office. Day, and other women lawyers, will be honored at an awards ceremony in St. Louis April 27.
Day assists clients with family law issues including dissolution, custody, modification, adoption, mediation, guardianship and probate matters. Over the past 60 years, she has represented thousands of clients in this area. Day has handled numerous contested matters, and has achieved many successful results. She served as Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri from 1960-62 and practiced as a sole practitioner from 1950-96, when she joined the Firm as of counsel.
Past recipients include Senator Claire McCaskill, Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Ann Covington and U.S. District Judge Jean Hamilton.
