Polsinelli welcomes attorney Ana I. Christian as an associate in its national Health Care Practice, where she will focus on clinical research transactional and regulatory issues. Before joining the firm, Christian worked for Medtronic and other clinical research sponsors. She also processed trademark registrations and represented clients in proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, a division of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Christian joins the firm’s Health Care Practice, the fourth largest in the nation, according to the 2013 rankings from the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and Modern Healthcare.
“I am thrilled that Ana has joined Polsinelli. She has a very sophisticated understanding of the business and regulatory environment in clinical research,” said Shareholder Kristen Rosati, who became President of the AHLA in July. “Ana is a bright star for our law firm.”
“We are expanding in strategic ways to best serve our clients and Ana’s depth of experience in regulatory and transactional work will be a great asset to our clients in California, and complements our national Health Care Practice,” said Polsinelli Health Care Practice Chair Matthew J. Murer. “We are ecstatic to have an attorney of Ana’s caliber join our growing team.”
Christian drafts and negotiates all manner of clinical research contracts, including clinical trial agreements, assignment and assumption agreements, confidentiality agreements and material transfer agreements. She also brings to the firm significant experience contracting on behalf of pharmaceutical and medical device companies and has advised clients on HIPAA authorizations and informed consent, conflict of interest, and Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law compliance in research.
Christian also offers clients specific insight on intellectual property in research. Prior to joining the Polsinelli, she advised clients on trademark portfolio management and prosecuting standard and design trademark applications for intent-to-use and use-based marks from filing to registration. She also directed the defense of an opposition proceeding through final decision, authoring the trial brief and conducting testimony depositions.
“I chose to move to Polsinelli because the firm is the right place to be for a health care attorney,” Christian said. “Polsinelli offers a national platform to develop my practice and the opportunity to work on a team of many of the most highly respected attorneys in the health care legal field. That is what is particularly exciting for me – the opportunity to join and contribute to such a deep and wide-reaching bench of legal talent.”
