Amanda Reeve doesn’t sleep much. The Polsinelli Shughart paralegal, master’s degree candidate and Arizona state legislator has been named “State Representative of the Year" by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She will be honored at a luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix on June 22.
She has been a Republican member of the Arizona House since 2010, representing Legislative District 6. She is chair of the Environment Committee, a member of Energy and Natural Resources Committee and a member of Higher Education, Innovation and Reform Committee. Reeve has also spent the past two years working with state and local government agencies on air quality issues; and, in 2011, was appointed by the governor as chair of the State Agency Fee Commission.
Reeve works as a paralegal in the Environmental and Natural Resources practice in the Phoenix office of national law firm Polsinelli Shughart. In fact, she says her legal experience has been invaluable to her in the legislature. “I contribute significantly in the drafting of a lot of my own bills and having experience with legal documents has taught me how language can be very impactful,” she said.
Likewise, her legislative experience has broadened the way that she views issues and circumstances that she encounters in all phases of her life. As a result she has an enhanced skill set when dealing with issues in the legislature, in her community, at home and on the job. “Being a state representative allows you to understand the process of getting legislation approved, along with the impact that legislation can have on various groups,” she said.
Lucas Narducci has been a friend and colleague of Reeve’s for more than a decade. He is chair of the firm’s Environmental and Natural Resources group and has supported Reeve through all of her endeavors over the years. “I am proud to call her my friend and enjoy working with her as my colleague. Her experiences through work, school and public service provide all of us with a further diverse skill set. She is a significant part of our work family and her skills assist all of us in doing a better job,” said Narducci.
Reeve also is working toward a Master’s Degree in Environmental Technology Management at Arizona State University. She completed her undergraduate degree at California State University, Sacramento, and moved to Phoenix in 2000.
“I’ve worked with this group of attorneys for 12 years and we’re all very much like family and supportive of one another,” she said. “That’s one of the reasons I was able to run for the legislature.”
