Polsinelli Shughart PC welcomes attorneys Alan Claus Anderson and J. Britton Gibson to the firm’s growing national Energy practice group. The addition of Anderson and Gibson complements the firm’s existing energy attorneys, and will increase services for clients with expanding energy needs in development, finance and complex transactional work. The pair represents regional, national, and international energy companies, and will practice in the Kansas City and Overland Park offices of Polsinelli Shughart.
“Alan and Britton have been on our radar for some time,” said Polsinelli Shughart Energy Chair Frank A. Caro, Jr. “The energy industry is an important focus of Polsinelli Shughart and we are proud to represent clients throughout the energy spectrum providing a full range of services.”
The Energy practice consists of attorneys in Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Overland Park, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. Clients range from investor owned utilities and electric cooperatives, oil and gas producers, and national and international renewable energy companies.
Anderson will serve as vice chair of the Energy practice group. He has extensive experience representing and serving as lead deal counsel and outside general counsel to public and private companies in the energy industry. He earned his law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1996, studied at Oxford University, Queens College in Oxford, England in 1995, and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Washington State University in 1993.
Gibson brings extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions to the energy practice. He is responsible for more than $5 billion in energy-related transactions. He represents clients in development, construction, financing and acquisition of renewable energy projects across the country. He earned his law degree from the University Of Tennessee College Of Law, cum laude, in 1998 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, cum laude, in 1995.
Both stay abreast of energy issues as members of various local and national energy associations including the American Wind Energy Association and the Solar Electric Power Association. Anderson is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Minerals Law Foundation and was selected for admission to the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. Anderson and Gibson are also members of the Kansas City Area Development’s Advanced Energy Task Force.
“We’re very excited about the opportunity to help expand the firm’s energy practice in growing markets like Chicago, Denver and Phoenix,” said Anderson. “With the firm’s expanded resources and depth of experience, the firm’s platform is right on track with where we want to be as we continue to serve our existing and future clients. We think it’s a great match.”
Anderson and Gibson speak and write frequently on the areas of law at both energy industry and bar association conferences. Both are excellent sources for reporters working on stories about:
• Issues facing oil and gas, wind and solar companies (Anderson)
• Mergers and acquisitions for energy companies (Gibson)
• Financing and acquisition of renewable projects (Anderson/Gibson)
