Polsinelli Shughart PC welcomes attorney Gary E. Hood as a shareholder in the firm’s Trial department, where he will assist in guiding the expansion of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology Litigation practice. Hood regularly appears in courts throughout the United States. He represents individuals and organizations in a wide range of industries, including consumer electronics, pharmaceuticals, automotive parts and accessories, agriculture and medical devices and methods.
“We’re very excited Gary has joined our firm,” said Anthony J. Nasharr, managing director of the Chicago office. “He’s a fierce advocate for his clients and brings 15 years of trial and appellate litigation experience to the Chicago office. Gary is a great fit for Chicago and complements our national team of IP attorneys.”
Hood joins a national team of intellectual property and technology litigation attorneys located in Chicago, Kansas City and St. Louis. Having successfully led dozens of cases involving everything from IP disputes, to general civil and business matters, to criminal charges, Hood’s practice now emphasizes efficient resolution of lawsuits involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, counterfeiting and piracy and other related federal and state claims.
“Polsinelli Shughart’s impressive tradition of trial and appellate advocacy attracted me to the firm,” Hood said. “My intellectual property and technology practice is increasingly broad and national in scope, spanning everything from Hatch Waxman pharmaceuticals litigation, to medical device and implant lawsuits, to digital television and image processing disputes. Polsinelli Shughart’s intellectual property practice is a great fit for my clients and me, and I am excited to help lead the charge in growing this part of the firm’s practice.”
Hood earned his law degree, magna cum laude, from Gonzaga University where he served as editor-in-chief of the Gonzaga Law Review. He was also the regional champion and National Sweet Sixteen qualifier in the prestigious National Moot Court competition. He earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, and before entering the practice of law, Hood served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Prior to joining Polsinelli Shughart, he was as a partner with McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff in Chicago.
Hood is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, the Intellectual Property Owners Association and the Washington State Bar Association.
