Foresight and strategic planning are paying off for the growing national Health Care practice at Polsinelli Shughart. Not only are key laterals joining the firm’s practice, 20 of the firm’s health care attorneys from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. are included in The Best Lawyers in America® 2013. Peer driven, Best Lawyers is the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession.

“This is a very exciting time for our practice,” said Health Care Chair Matt Murer, who practices in the Chicago office of Polsinelli Shughart. “Twenty years ago, the firm set a goal of developing a nationally pre-eminent health care practice. Now, that goal has been realized and this ranking by our peers is an affirmation of our strategic plan.”

The Health Care Group now consists of attorneys in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Phoenix, St. Joseph St. Louis and Washington, D.C. The recent addition of health care attorneys in Dallas and Los Angeles has further deepened the talent pool of resources for clients. The Health Care Group’s bench strength allows the firm to provide comprehensive representation to physicians, hospitals and health systems and long term care providers. This includes everything from counseling on day-to-day operational issues to advising clients on complex policy and political issues through our public policy group in DC. In 2011, Modern Healthcare ranked the firm’s Health Care Group the sixth largest in the country.

“No one could have ever foreseen the opportunity as it has materialized or how important health care has become to the national economy,” said Murer. “We strive to serve our clients’ businesses as passionately as if they were our own.”

Attorneys from a variety of practice areas helped make the designation as sixth largest a reality. Corporate, tax, nonprofit, employee benefits and litigation attorneys, whose practices are largely devoted to the firm’s health care clients, are part of a team of attorneys who compose this multi-disciplinary practice. The firm has plans to continue the growth of the practice in Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, St. Louis and Washington, D.C. The firm’s health care lawyers are also members of the American Health Lawyers Association and some have been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers.

About Best Lawyers®

Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers® has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Because Best Lawyers® is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which more than 39,000 leading attorneys cast over three million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their specialties, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers® is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers® “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice.”

It is important to note that the lawyers listed in Best Lawyers® have no say in deciding which specialties they are included in. They are voted into specialties entirely as a result of the votes they receive from their peers. The subspecialties listed after their names are based on information from a variety of sources.

Since many state bar associations have a board certification process and rules governing legal specialties, please be aware that the specialties and subspecialties listed in our publications are based on information from the general legal community and that a listed lawyer may or may not be board certified in a specialty or subspecialty. Clients are urged to check a lawyer’s firm web page to determine whether he or she is board certified in the specialty or subspecialty.
