Polsinelli Expands in Washington, D.C. with Addition of Three Shareholders

Polsinelli announced today the addition of three new shareholders – Michael M. Gaba, Mark B. Joachim, and Jennifer L. Jones – in its Washington, D.C. office, marking another expansion of the firm’s presence in the nation’s capital.

“We’re proud to have been able to attract three highly-experienced and motivated attorneys to our Washington, D.C. office and look forward to the opportunities they will bring,” said Philip Feigen, Washington, D.C. Office Managing Partner. “All three of these attorneys will make a very solid impact on our firm and maintain our clients-first approach toward doing business.”

The new attorneys bring varied backgrounds and will provide added depth in three of the firm’s national practice groups.
  • Gaba joins Polsinelli’s Public Policy and FDA Law practice groups, bringing deep regulatory and legislative life sciences experience to the firm. His practice focuses on advocating for medical device and biotech companies before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the U.S. Congress to ensure their products get to market and remain on the market to benefit patients in the most appropriate care settings.
  • Joachim joins Polsinelli’s Capital Markets and Commercial Lending practice groups, bringing lending, bankruptcy and financial restructuring experience encompassing both new loan transactions and the restructuring of existing arrangements.
  • Jones joins Polsinelli’s Real Estate practice, bringing experience in the leasing, acquisition, sale and development of retail, office and industrial real estate properties.
“Michael, Mark, and Jennifer are outstanding leaders in their fields and bring a significant boost to our D.C. office in each of their respective practice areas,” said Polsinelli Chairman Russ Welsh. “Their additions are a strong signal of our firm’s growth in the nation’s capital. We look forward to aligning their experience and industry knowledge to our clients’ needs to ultimately help our clients achieve their long-term business goals.”

Polsinelli has 20 offices coast to coast, and added its Washington, D.C. office in 2005 as part of the firm’s strategy to provide clients with access to the resources of the federal government. Since then, it has grown to become a well-known office with deep capabilities in the areas of public policy, energy and public utilities, government contracts, health care, intellectual property and litigation. The office serves clients including Fortune 500 corporations, major national trade associations, coalitions of corporations and associations, and state/local and foreign governments.

These additions come during a time of strong momentum for Polsinelli, which was recently designated No. 20 among national law firms in brand strength in BTI Consulting Group’s 2017 BTI Brand Elite. The firm is also building upon its recent ranking in BTI’s Client Service A-Team as the No. 17 firm in Client Service Excellence.

Gaba advises clients on complex FDA regulatory topics and CMS coverage issues, including federal health care policy matters created by these agencies. He helps clients with their go-to-market strategies, providing strategic counseling with a focus on combination product approval, labeling and promotion, as well as coverage, coding and reimbursement strategies for medical device and biotech companies.

Prior to entering private practice, Gaba worked on Capitol Hill in the offices of Rep. Robert Garcia (D-NY) and Sen. Bill Bradley (D-NJ), in addition to serving on the Labor and Human Resources Committee under Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA). He uses his public policy background to write about and lecture on numerous regulatory issues. Gaba has been a member of the Bloomberg BNA Medical Devices Law & Industry Editorial Advisory Board since 2009, is an Advisory Board Member for the FDAnews Medical Device Conference and has been a member of the Advisory Board for AdvaMed Medical Technology Learning Institute since 2015.

Joachim brings more than two decades of experience representing clients on complex financing arrangements to Polsinelli’s Capital Markets and Commercial Lending Practice Group. He brings extensive experience representing first and second lien senior lenders, mezzanine investors and equity sponsors and borrowers in senior debt, mezzanine and private equity financing arrangements.

Joachim also focuses on restructuring, and regularly represents lenders, creditors, distressed debt investors, official committees, ad hoc groups of creditors, debtor-in-possession lenders and borrowers in connection with bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court restructurings.

Jones, a former commercial real estate property manager and consultant, advises domestic and international clients on various leasing-related intricacies related to big box and in-line retail leases, multi-floor and full building office and industrial leases. She negotiates multi-million dollar purchase and sale agreements for commercial properties and portfolio deals, providing legal advice related to each step of the acquisition, development, leasing management and disposition of real property.

Jones has represented private equity real estate investment firms in multiple states, asset managers for office and industrial buildings, department store chains and national retailer developers. She has experience negotiating the redevelopment of shopping centers and other multi-use developments, including complex redevelopment-related lease amendments with grocery stores, anchor tenants, restaurants and movie theater chains.
