Pete Levi is the leader of the Kansas City Region Public Policy group, formed to assist clients in achieving their goals at the state, federal and local levels. For nearly 20 years, Mr. Levi served as president of The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, representing over 7,000 companies as the largest and oldest chamber in the region. In that capacity, among other duties, he was responsible for The Chamber's legislative programs in Topeka, Jefferson City, Washington and locally. These efforts were focused on areas including, transportation, energy, health care, education, life sciences, taxation, and other issues affecting the two-state Kansas City community.
Under Mr. Levi's direction, The Chamber provided a host of service to large and small companies to assist them in growing their businesses.
Among the accomplishments of The Chamber during Mr. Levi's tenure as president were the passage of the only bi-state metropolitan funding mechanism in the history of the region; development of a nationally recognized Climate Protection Partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region; convening the annual Governors' Summit, which brings together the governors of the two states to commit to joint action benefiting the region; highlighting the importance of small business through the nation's largest small business celebration; designing programs to develop new young leaders in the community; designation of the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor; and presenting international trade opportunities for local businesses.
Prior to serving as president of The Chamber, Mr. Levi served as the executive director of the Mid-America Regional Council, the regional council of governments serving greater Kansas City with responsibilities for coordinating local government activities and conducting regional planning.
Mr. Levi has authored numerous articles, and co-authored a text on subdivision regulations published by the American Society of Planning Officials. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Northwestern University and a J.D. and LL.M. in Urban Legal Affairs from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Mr. Levi serves in numerous organizations including the Missouri Bar, the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, as well as the board of directors of the Kansas City Symphony and the Board of Trustees of University of Missouri-Kansas City.
