Polsinelli Shughart PC expands its Health Care practice with the addition of Patrick J. Martinez. Martinez joins the firm as an associate, and will assist health care providers with general health care issues including compliance with the False Claims Act, the anti-kickback statute, the physician self-referral law and Medicare reimbursement.

Martinez’s addition to the Health Care Practice is a result of the recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), or Health Reform, to help meet clients’ needs. In its May 31 issue, Modern Healthcare named Polsinelli Shughart the tenth largest health care law firm in the country based on its 56 attorneys and other professionals who are members of the American Health Lawyers Association. Martinez is a member of the AHLA.

In addition, Martinez advises clients on Medicare secondary payer rules, HIPAA and EMTALA. His experience includes handling facility licensing, medical staff and patient care issues, clinical trial matters, physician contracting and business transactional work involving various health care entities. Prior to joining the firm, Martinez practiced with the Louisville, Kentucky law firm of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, LLP.
Martinez earned his J.D., cum laude, with a Certificate in Health Law from DePaul University College of Law in 2007. He also served as editor in chief of the DePaul Journal of Health Care Law. He earned a bachelor of arts in political science and international studies from Northwestern University in 2003. He is a member of the Illinois Bar and Kentucky Bar
