Members of the Phoenix Regional Sports Commission elected Polsinelli Shughart attorney Katie Brown to their board on March 8. The Phoenix Regional Sports Commission is one of the oldest Sports Commissions in the United States and its mission focuses on attracting national and international sporting events to the state. Additionally they assist in the promotion of existing events and teams and support youth sports programs.
Members of the Commission represent all segments of the sports community: sports franchises, sports facilities, vendors, construction contractors, chambers of commerce, media, real estate, pharmaceutical, hospitality, and legal community.

Prior to attending law school, Brown worked in college athletic administration and NCAA Rules Compliance. Most recently, while attending law school full-time at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, she worked as a compliance coordinator in athletics at Arizona State University. Brown was also the president and symposium chair of the Sports and Entertainment Law Student Association (SELSA) at the law school. She was the primary coordinator of the 2007 SELSA Symposium, featuring prominent professionals in sports from the Phoenix area, including Nona Lee, Ray Artigue and Michael J. Bidwill, among others. Brown also held the positions of coordinator of Women’s Basketball Operations at the University of Arizona and of assistant director of Football Operations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
