Polsinelli Shughart Attorney Paula Kim Honored by the Korean American Association of Chicago for Community Service

Ms. Kim was selected for her work as the President of the Young Leaders Board of the Korean American Community Services, a social service agency dedicated to providing educational, legal, health and social services to the Korean and local communities in Chicago. In addition, Ms. Kim is also a board member for the Korean American Bar Association and a former board member of the University of Illinois Asian American Alumni Network and the Asian American Institute. Ms. Kim also currently serves as an Advisory Board Member of the DePaul University College of Law Center for Public Interest Law, and the Litigation Committee Member of the National Immigrant Justice Center. She practices in commercial litigation and is committed to public service through her pro bono work in the areas of immigration law, housing discrimination and family law.

“Practicing commercial litigation in the private sector gives me the freedom to pursue my interest in helping others who cannot afford the sophisticated legal services an attorney can provide,” said Ms. Kim. “Receiving the March 1st Independence Movement Award is a privilege and my work with Korean American Community Services has been rewarding. One of the most rewarding service events we organized included assisting the elderly in weatherizing their homes, where we were joined by Congressman Mike Quigley from the 5th Congressional District of Illinois.”

In December, Ms. Kim joined the Chicago office of Polsinelli Shughart as associate, in the firm’s Trial department where she practices business litigation. Ms. Kim concentrates her practice in the areas of complex, general business and commercial litigation. She represents both publicly traded and privately held businesses, individual officers and directors, and entrepreneurs in a variety of areas. Ms. Kim has represented banks and financial institutions, insurance companies, manufacturing companies, professional service providers, business ventures and trusts. Ms. Kim most recently practiced with the Chicago law firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP for four years before joining Polsinelli Shughart.
Ms. Kim graduated with her J.D., cum laude, in 2005 from DePau

l University College of Law, Chicago, Illinois where she was Associate Editor of the DePaul Law Review, and member of the DePaul Moot Court Society. Ms. Kim earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history in May 2001. She previously was a law clerk in the labor and employment division of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Chicago, Illinois, and a graduate fellow for the Center for Justice in Capital Cases, Public Interest Law Initiative, Chicago, Illinois.
She is a member of the Illinois Bar, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh District.
