Polsinelli Shughart PC welcomes Attorney James R. Asmussen to the Chicago office as shareholder to the firm’s General Corporate practice in the Business department. The addition of Asmussen supports a growing trend for Chicago entrepreneurs – growth of new businesses and an uptick in merger and acquisitions.

Asmussen’s practice consists of assisting privately held companies transition through various growth stages, often acting as special merger/acquisition counsel in connection with a sale/buy transaction. His broad experience base includes corporate, securities and transactions with an emphasis on merger and acquisitions transactions, private equity and venture capital transactions, entity formation and start-up, bank lending and licensing. Backed by a strong finance and accounting background, Asmussen has provided legal counsel and business advice to both large established and emerging growth companies for more than 20 years, often serving as general outside counsel to his clients, many of which are in the technology, software, healthcare and food service industries

Asmussen earned his law degree, magna cum laude, in 1989 from the University of Illinois College of Law. He served on the Illinois Law Review and was a member and associate editor of the Order of the Coif. Asmussen earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting at Villanova University in 1985 and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of the Illinois Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association. Prior to joining Polsinelli Shughart, Asmussen practiced law at the Chicago office of Shefsky & Froelich.
