Polsinelli Shughart PC is expanding its Financial Services department with the addition of Lawrence D. Cooper to the firm’s Denver office. Cooper will practice in the firm’s Commercial Lending, Capital Markets and Project Finance practice group. Cooper previously served as senior in-house counsel for Key Equipment Finance, Fifth Third Bank and most recently for Volvo Financial Services.

Cooper brings to Polsinelli Shughart more than 25 years of comprehensive and sophisticated legal experience in the areas of commercial finance law and financial transaction documentation, including substantial direct experience handling domestic and international financial transactions involving corporate and commercial aircraft and aviation assets. Additionally Cooper has extensive experience in the areas of bankruptcy, workouts and commercial litigation.
In his capacity as senior in-house counsel Cooper directly handled, and managed the closing of, hundreds of domestic and international corporate aviation, commercial aviation, commercial equipment, general commercial and syndication financing transactions. He was also responsible for providing, as well as overseeing and managing the delivery of, legal services in connection with hundreds of bankruptcy, commercial litigation and workout matters and cases.
Cooper will work closely with Peter W. Ito, who joined firm’s Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring practice group in the Denver office last November. The attorneys previously partnered to provide effective bankruptcy and recovery legal services and support to Volvo Financial Services.
Cooper earned his law degree from the St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio and holds a bachelor’s degree from Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. He is an active member of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association and its Rail, Air and Marine Subcommittee and the American Bar Association and its Commercial Financial Services Committee and Subcommittee on Aircraft Financing.
