Attorney Gregory P. Durbin has joined Polsinelli Shughart PC as a shareholder in the firm’s Denver office, where he will help manage the firm’s Science and Technology practice group and expand a key area of growth for the firm.
Durbin, an electrical engineer who has worked as a patent attorney for 11 years, brings a broad range of technical, business and legal experience in a variety of technical fields, including clean energy, medical devices, media technology and computer software.
“Greg’s extensive background in electrical engineering complements our growing patent practice here in Denver as well as our other offices across the country,” said G. Stephen Long, managing partner of the Denver office. “He brings the level of industry knowledge and experience our clients have come to expect.”
Durbin will work closely with other members of the firm’s Science and Technology practice group across the country as well as the Denver office’s recently expanded Clean Technology practice, helping in all aspects of intellectual property law.

Prior to joining Polsinelli Shughart, Durbin was a patent attorney and partner with the intellectual property group of Dorsey & Whitney LLP in Denver. He has worked on U.S. and international patent portfolios, enforcing and defending patent rights, assessing and mitigating infringement risks, helping bring new products to market and counseling clients on a wide range of intellectual property issues. He has successfully asserted a patent in front of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which holds nationwide jurisdiction in a variety of areas, including patents, trademarks and international trade.
Before attending law school, Durbin worked for six years as an engineer, gaining experience in electrical, mechanical, and systems and software engineering. He was involved with early research and development of Ford’s Ecostar electric vehicle program and has a deep understanding of electric and hybrid vehicle technology.
A member of the Denver and Colorado Bar Associations, Durbin received a J.D. and master’s degree in intellectual property from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in New Hampshire and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. A Michigan native, Durbin lives in Morrison, Colo., with his wife and four children.
