Polsinelli Shughart PC welcomes Barton D. Day to the firm’s Phoenix and Washington, D.C. offices as a shareholder in the Environmental and Natural Resources practice. Day brings significant national and international experience assisting businesses with regulatory issues. Day is one of 16 attorneys from Bryan Cave who recently joined the Phoenix and Washington, D.C offices of Polsinelli Shughart. The recent addition further expands the firm’s Environmental and Natural Resources practice.

Day has been involved both in major national and international issues as well as in remediation, compliance, permitting and enforcement matters involving individual facilities all across the nation. He represented the State of Kuwait in its claims against the Government of Iraq for environmental damage resulting from Iraq’s 1990-1991 invasion and occupation of Kuwait. In addition, Day has worked with trade associations and other industry groups both in federal and state rulemaking proceedings and in litigation, challenging agency rules. Day represents individual companies in matters ranging from relatively routine permitting or compliance matters to “bet- the-company” enforcement cases.
“His many years of experience in Washington, D.C. – together with his extensive experience with federal, state and local regulators here in Arizona and across the country - has given him invaluable insight into how businesses can effectively shape the regulations to which they are subject and how they can successfully address regulatory issues and maintain compliance while fostering constructive relationships with their regulators. Day received his law degree from George Washington University, where he graduated with highest honors and as a member of the Order of the Coif. He received his undergraduate education at Beloit College. Day is licensed to practice law in Arizona and the District of Columbia.
