Anthony J. Nasharr, managing director of the Chicago office of Polsinelli Shughart PC, today announced that veteran health care attorney Kara Friedman has joined the Chicago office as a shareholder in the firm’s growing national health care practice group.
Friedman’s practice will focus on general representation of health care providers while providing counsel and advice on a broad scope of corporate and regulatory matters, including compliance, professional standards, governmental reimbursement, facility licensure and accreditation, facilities planning and Certificate of Need law, and health care fraud and abuse. She also oversees merger and acquisition and joint venture activities of health care facilities.
Friedman most recently was a partner with the Chicago law firm of McGuireWoods before joining Polsinelli Shughart.
“Kara is an excellent addition to our health care practice,” Nasharr said. “She understands the health care industry from all angles and at every level,” said Nasharr. “We’re excited to have her onboard as we continue the steady, strategic growth of the Chicago office.”
Nasharr noted that the Chicago office has added 10 health care attorneys to the health care group since March 2008 when Fredric J. Entin, the former general counsel of the American Hospital Association, joined the firm. The Polsinelli Shughart national health care practice includes a total of 24 attorneys in Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis, Washington, D.C. and other offices.

Friedman graduated with her J.D. in 1993 from Loyola University School of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1989.
Friedman is a member of the Annals of Health Law, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Illinois Association of Health Care Attorneys and the Illinois Chamber Healthcare Council.
