Jason is a partner in the firm’s Financial and Securities Litigation and Commercial Litigation practice groups. He has extensive litigation experience, including numerous first-chair jury trials and arbitrations. He prides himself not only on being an excellent trial lawyer, but also on having a practical understanding of business which began with his business and finance degree and has grown with nearly two decades of partnering with businesses, large and small, to understand their needs and help them reach their goals.  

He has significant experience in:
  • Complex Litigation, including Breach of Contract, Shareholder Disputes, Fraud, and Unfair Competition
  • Intellectual Property Litigation, including Trade Secrets, Non-Compete and Non-Solicitation Agreements
  • Bankruptcy and Fraudulent Transfer Litigation, including prosecution of such claims on behalf of Bankruptcy or Liquidating Trustees, and defense of such claims on behalf of businesses
  • Real Estate Litigation, including both prosecution and defense of Condemnation/Eminent Domain proceedings
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution, including hundreds of Mediations and Arbitrations
  • In the defense of a Fortune 500 manufacturing company, undertook extensive early fact investigation and narrowly tailored discovery mission to develop facts and obtain early dismissal of all claims against client, resulting in significant cost savings.
  • Represented national hospital organization in suit challenging enforceability of deed use restrictions.
  • After a nearly two-week jury trial, obtained favorable verdict in a case where the plaintiff had suffered catastrophic injuries and sought millions in damages.
  • After commissioners' hearing and extensive briefing on key valuation issue, obtained favorable commissioners' award and subsequent settlement approximately seven times the initial amount offered by the condemning authority.
  • Defended large law firm and several of its attorneys in a multi-million dollar professional liability suit. Obtained favorable ruling from the Kansas Supreme Court on a certified question of law, resulting in dismissal of all claims against clients.
  • Represented small-business owner in breach of contract suit involving purchase of a business. Proposed and obtained creative settlement agreement involving the use of binding high-low parameters in conjunction with independent valuation, resulting in early, favorable settlement and significant cost savings for client.
  • Defended co-owner of business in suit alleging breach of contract, fraud, and other misconduct. Prosecuted various counterclaims using targeted discovery to strengthen the counterclaims and negotiation leverage, resulting in favorable settlement.
  • Obtained favorable arbitration award in breach of contract action. Aggressively pursued claims for fraudulent transfers and piercing the corporate veil to obtain favorable settlement against LLC's sole member and new companies that received fraudulent transfers.
  • Represented natural gas pipeline company to negotiate and obtain right-of-way for new pipeline. Minimized number of litigated right-of-way acquisitions, and obtained favorable settlements in those that required litigation.
