OIG Releases 2010 Work Plan

An Update from the Health Care Group

On October 1, 2009, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) published its Work Plan for 2010. The Work Plan identifies new, continued and revived programs and activities that will be the focus of the OIG in 2010. Health care providers should use the Work Plan as a reference guide to identify potential corporate compliance risk areas, update current policies and programs and determine the scope and focus of its annual audit plan.

The 2010 Work Plan highlights issues that were a focus for the OIG under the 2009 Work Plan, identifies new areas of focus for 2010 and re-focuses on issues that had been on OIG Work Plans in the past but had fallen off the OIG’s radar. Health care providers should pay particular attention to those issues that are consistently on the annual OIG Work Plans to ensure the provider’s compliance plan focuses on those repeat issues.

For a summary of some of the new, continued and revived issues under the Work Plan, please click here.

The complete 2010 OIG Work Plan can be accessed at the following address: http://oig.hhs.gov/publications/docs/workplan/2010/
