11th Annual National Seminar -

The Law of Tax-Exempt Organizations

An Update from Polsinelli Shughart's Nonprofit Organizations Group

Constant developments in the tax-exempt arena often leave organizations struggling to understand and comply with the changes. Most recently, nonprofits were faced with new reporting obligations under the redesigned IRS Form 990, the most significant development impacting tax-exempt organizations in the last 40 years

On October 1 and 2, the Polsinelli Shughart PC nonprofit organizations group will address Form 990 and other recent developments as they present the 11th Annual National Seminar titled “The Law of Tax-Exempt Organizations.” The seminar is a comprehensive review of a wide variety of issues facing tax-exempt organizations and will provide value to everyone in attendance. The presentations will feature a range of issues, including introductory topics such as categories of exempt organizations and the exemption application process, to more advanced topics such as corporate structuring and governance. The seminar will also provide updates on current developments and year-end planning. Conference benefits and objectives, as listed in the flier referenced below, include the following:

  • Nonprofit law current developments
  • Current views on nonprofit, good governance
  • Insight into categories of tax-exempt organizations
  • Unrelated business income
  • Charitable giving and noncash donation rules
  • Current rules regarding partnerships, joint ventures, limited liability companies and subsidiaries
  • Choice of entity for related and unrelated activities
  • Understanding the IRS focus on nonprofit compensation
  • Navigate the political and legislative limitations for tax-exempt organizations
  • Prepare for IRS audits
  • Guidance on disclosure requirements
  • Update on the New Form 990 reporting
  • Learn about other current and potential developments in the tax-exempt arena that will impact you and your clients

Presenters will include shareholders from Polsinelli Shughart's nonprofit organizations group, including Bruce Hopkins, Tom Schenkelberg, Doug Anning, Virginia Gross and Lisa McLaughlin.
