Robert B. Sullivan devotes most of his practice to insurance law matters. With more than 30 years experience, insurance companies, agents, and insurance and health-related businesses seek his expertise. He has represented insurance companies, agents and/or national associations before state insurance departments and federal and state courts.
In addition to representing clients’ regulatory and compliance issues before state insurance regulators, Mr. Sullivan also negotiates and drafts insurance transactional documents, including asset and stock purchase agreements, quota-share and assumption reinsurance arrangements, and loss portfolio transfer and bulk insurance sales. Numerous companies rely on Mr. Sullivan’s assistance with regulatory financial and market conduct examinations.
Mr. Sullivan actively works with the firm's litigation department to assist them with respect to providing technical knowledge and expertise about insurance company customs and practices, market conduct, and regulatory rules and procedures in the defense of allegations of bad faith refusal to pay, wrongful rescission, agent misrepresentation and fraud, unfair trade practices and unfair competition. Mr. Sullivan's experience and knowledge of statutory accounting principles, claims reserving, actuarial practices, corporate governance "best practices" in a regulated community and familiarity with the NAIC Financial Examiners Handbook provide the firm's litigators with valuable "in-house" knowledge of these segments of the insurance industry.
