How Does the American Rescue Plan Change FFCRA Paid Leave Options, and Should Employers Pass on This Benefit to Their Employees?

Employer obligations to provide paid sick and family leave under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) ended on December 31, 2020. On December 27, 2020, President Trump signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 (CAA), extending the payroll tax credits available to employers who voluntarily decided to continue to provide FFCRA-type leave through March 31, 2021.
