Cryptocurrency and the Global Financial Transactions Surveillance Model – Inside or Outside of the Regulatory Circle?

May 16, 2019 | 1:45 – 3:15 pm
Polsinelli is proud to announce that Richard B. Levin, the Chair of the firm's FinTech and Regulation Practice, will be a featured speaker the Smart Regulation and the Future of Financial Regulation Conference at the Antonin Scalia Law School of George Mason University. The conference brings together thought leaders from government, academia, the fintech community and the bar. The panel will focus on the emergence of over 1500 cryptocurrencies and crypto exchanges and how global financial regulators and financial companies are working to maintain robust systems to monitor suspicious financial transactions. The discussion will address the characteristics of cryptocurrencies as securities, money, commodities or something else, whether they should be required to mimic the rules of “permissioned” traditional financial regulatory and transaction systems, and how their oversight and surveillance should be constructed.
