Polsinelli Attorney Donald L. Samuels Elected Chair of Colorado Judicial Institute
Don Samuels, Shareholder and Employment Litigation Practice Chair at Polsinelli, was recently named Chair-Elect of the Colorado Judicial Institute (CJI). As CJI Chair-Elect, Samuels will play an active role in determining the direction, priorities and projects for the organization. His chairmanship will continue through May 2023.
“I am honored to serve as the Chair-Elect for such a prestigious organization,” said Samuels. “It is my hope that we will continue to play an important role in ensuring the existence of a fair, impartial and independent judicial system that is well understood by our citizens.”
The Colorado Judicial Institute is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that seeks to engender the public’s trust that the judicial system will provide litigants their day in court with dignity. Founded in 1979, the organization is committed to protecting and defending the ability of the Colorado judiciary to decide cases fairly while furthering the public’s understanding of Colorado’s judicial system and supporting the excellence of the courts.
“We are confident that Don’s legal and practical expertise will make him a stellar chair of CJI’s board,” said Joshua Anderson, CJI’s executive director. “As our new fiscal year begins, Don will be instrumental in helping us achieve CJI’s internal and external organizational goals.”
As Chairman of CJI, Samuels plans to work towards his goals of helping the organization transition out of the pandemic, diversifying CJI membership and enhancing benefits for CJI members. A major theme of his tenure will be recognition of, respect for, and education about the rule of law. In terms of diversification, Samuels hopes to diversify the membership of CJI in every respect: lawyers and nonlawyers, geographic location, race, sex, age, national origin and ethnicity. He also plans to enhance the member experience by providing more opportunities for social and educational events for members to attend throughout the year.
In addition to his new role as Chair-Elect for CJI, Samuels is the current chairman of Polsinelli’s employment litigation practice group. Samuels has practiced employment law and litigation for more than 30 years with a client base spanning from S&P 500 companies and manufacturing enterprises to city governments and start-ups. He is a passionate advocate and trusted advisor to his clients with a strong reputation for his in-depth knowledge of the law, high standards, practical approach, integrity and understanding of client needs. Samuels is a fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers, an employment law arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, and a mentor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
Polsinelli looks forward to watching Samuels excel in this new role.
