U.S. and international health authorities continue to respond to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). While originally detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, as of the date of this alert the virus has now been detected in approximately 60 countries worldwide, including the United States. Nearly 90,000 cases have been confirmed worldwide. Until last week, cases in the U.S. had been limited to those who had traveled abroad and those who had close contact with returned travelers; however, a number of cases have now been diagnosed in several states in individuals without an obvious traceable source.
