Amy Kiefer Hansen, a shareholder and real estate attorney at Polsinelli in Denver and chair of the firm’s national Real Estate, Environmental and Construction practices, has been named a Top Women Lawyer of 2020 by Law Week Colorado. The publication’s annual awards list showcases leading women attorneys who have had major professional accomplishments in the past year.
Hansen assists clients who are developing raw land or underutilized properties for residential and commercial purposes across the United States. She works with developers, contractors, investors and a range of business owners in investment structuring and other acquisition, financing and development matters.
“Amy has so much credibility and such deep relationships in the real estate industry,” said Kraig M. Kohring, chair of Polsinelli’s Real Estate and Financial Services Department. “She has a known reputation for supporting her clients through the entire business lifecycle with an unparalleled understanding of complex statutes related to financing and development, special districts, common interest communities and more. Her clients really trust her and enjoy working with her.”
Hansen prides herself on empowering women to be the best attorneys they can be, while creating a culture and an environment that female attorneys find extremely rewarding and flexible enough to meet their different needs at various points in their careers and family lives. As such, she has actively sought to refine the reduced schedule policy and the origination policy and has been a constant advocate for inclusion of women, especially junior shareholders, in strategic discussions for the practice group.
“Working with our CEO, Chase Simmons, and other firm leaders, I have made it a conscious goal to make Polsinelli the best firm for any female real estate lawyer in the country,” said Hansen. “The significant representation of women in the practice group validates our efforts to attract and welcome these talented attorneys who are willing to work hard, pursue challenging goals and make the most of opportunities.”
Hansen earned her law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law, where she served as a member of the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy. She also received a B.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Aside from her legal practice, Hansen is a member of the Denver Civic Ventures board of directors with the Downtown Denver Partnership. She has also been an active leader within Denver-based Mothers Advocating for Affordable Housing and offer pro-bono support for nonprofits seeking legal counsel regarding real estate matters.
Hansen was previously recognized by the Denver Business Journal in its Forty Under 40 list and Bisnow named her to its Denver Power Women list in 2019.
