A white collar defense lawyer who specializes in health care fraud and is currently representing the Texas attorney general in a securities fraud case on Monday moved to Polsinelli PC’s Dallas office from Fish & Richardson PC.

Bill Mateja, a former federal prosecutor who once oversaw the U.S. Department of Justice’s health care fraud enforcement, has a diverse white collar defense practice that is composed of about 60 percent health care fraud and abuse matters, along with high-profile cases such as defending Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Mateja told Law360 on Wednesday that his health care experience dovetails with Polsinelli’s deep and broad health care practice, giving him new opportunities in the field.

“I really want to enhance the health care fraud and abuse work I’m doing and I think this is the platform to do that,” Mateja said. “Polsinelli has the kind of expertise in health law that I used to have to outsource.”
