With the growing popularity of social networking Web sites, and with the increased use of cell phones, there has been an equally alarming increase in the activity of cyber bullying and sexting. Individual states and the federal government have passed recent legislation to help counteract this new era of cyber bullying.

This installment of our special Labor and Employment series will update Kansas school districts on the current status of the law, and the steps districts can and should consider taking to help combat cyber bullying and sexting in their schools.

About the Speaker:

Robert J. Hingula

Mr. Hingula primarily focuses his practice on trial and counseling work involving labor and employment law. Most recently, Mr Hingula has devoted a significant amount of his practice to representing employers in various industries in collective actions brought pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Mr. Hingula also routinely counsels and represents school districts through various employment and education law issues, including due process hearings, student discipline procedures, implementation of district-wide policies, and grievances. Mr. Hingula has defended districts in arbitrations brought by teachers challenging the districts' decision to terminate their employment. Mr. Hingula also routinely provides training to district employees regarding various employment practices, and has assisted districts in properly investigating employee and student complaints regarding various issues including discipline, harassment/bullying, discrimination, and statutory compliance.
