Polsinelli Shughart PC attorney Melissa S. Ho was elected to the Arizona State Bar Board of Governors from District 6 (Maricopa County) to serve a three-year term. The State Bar of Arizona Board of Governors oversees the policy-making and operation of the organization. In total, eight attorneys were elected from Maricopa County and one each from Yavapai and Pinal Counties.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Melissa and we extremely proud of her for this accomplishment,” said Phoenix Managing Partner Ed Novak. “Melissa has the energy, enthusiasm and passion to serve us well as a member of the board of governors. She has substantial experience in bar activities and has held leadership positions in the Arizona Asian American Bar Association. She is not afraid to address the tough issues facing the legal profession and will approach each issue with an open mind.”

Ho practices in the firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Criminal Defense practice. She is also the current District 4 Representative for the Young Lawyers Division, serves on the Committee on Criminal Jury Instructions, Committee on Women and Minorities in Law and the State Bar Convention Committee. Ho was previously President of the Arizona Asian American Bar Association, and is currently a Commissioner on the City of Phoenix Pacific Rim Advisory Council, as well as a Steering Committee Member of the Arizona Women Lawyers Association (Maricopa chapter). She has served on the Board of Directors of Through Each Other’s Eyes, an organization that seeks to promote international understanding through the medium of photography. She graduated from Arizona State University with degrees in Biology and Chinese and received her J.D. from the University of Arizona.

“The campaign and subsequent election results were the product of assistance from many friends and colleagues,” stated Ho. “I am thrilled to be working with such a dynamic board and am thoroughly humbled that I had the support of so many members of the Arizona Bar. I am looking forward to the next three years of service.”

At its June 14th meeting, the board of governors is expected to certify the election results. The board is comprised of 30 people: four non-attorney, public members appointed by the board; three at-large members appointed by the Arizona Supreme Court; 19 attorney members elected by fellow Bar members in their district; and four ex-officio members (immediate past president and the deans of Arizona's three law schools). The board meets a minimum of nine times each year.
