From The Tennessean

Polsinelli, a Kansas City-based law firm, is opening an office in Nashville anchored by attorneys with health care expertise but will grow to include several practice areas.

The firm hired Bobby Guy and Robert Dempsey from the Nashville office of Frost Brown Todd to anchor the office. The pair started last week.

The expansion comes on the heels of Polsinelli adding a health care practice in Raleigh, N.C., last month. The blueprint for Nashville will be different, said Russ Welsh, chairman in Kansas City, Mo.

"Our plan is to build a broad-based practice that is anchored by health care. ... This is a long-term commitment," Welsh said.

Practice areas will come to include attorneys specializing in life sciences, financial services, real estate and commercial litigation, he said. The firm was named law firm of the year in health care by U.S. News & World report in 2015. The firm has offices in nearly two dozen cities with more than 740 lawyers.

Guy said he and Dempsey are looking forward to working with a health care team that has more than 100 attorneys based around the country. Polsinelli's health care practice is provider-based, Welsh said.

Welsh said the firm will continue to hire in Nashville rather than relocating attorneys to the city. Welsh said the firm has been looking at Nashville and having off-and-on conversations to find the right hires for about three years.

he firm's growth plan will be similar to an expansion in Dallas four years ago when it started with two attorneys working in an executive suite. Polsinelli has moved to a permanent space to house its 37-person team.

"Nashville is a great city, and we look forward to being a part of the business community for years to come," Welsh said.
