New site will augment the Devil’s Dictionary book and app, with refreshed content to serve as a resource for industry professionals

Polsinelli launched today its newest website, The Devil’s Dictionary, a comprehensive guide designed to help clients and restructuring professionals understand the complex world of bankruptcy terms.

The Devil’s Dictionary website will augment Polsinelli’s previously-published The Devil’s Dictionary book and mobile app, serving as an all-inclusive spot where industry professionals can conveniently access the content in one user-friendly place. The Devil’s Dictionary website is intended to be a guide and dictionary of commonly-used terms in the restructuring industry for clients, commercial lenders, bankruptcy and restructuring professionals, lawyers, financial advisors, reporters, law students, judges and more.

“We are pleased to be able to release the Devil’s Dictionary book in an online form that can be a one-stop-shop for industry professionals to use as a tool to explain the complex restructuring and bankruptcy world in an insightful, and slightly sarcastic, manner,” said Bankruptcy Practice Chair Christopher A. Ward. “The content was originally created with the intention to serve as a much-needed reference guide to terms, phrases, and buzz words for our commercial lending clients; however, the new website will allow us to reach a broader group of individuals and offers the opportunity to easily keep pace with the ever-changing restructuring industry.”

Originally published in 2012, The Devil’s Dictionary was created with unique and whimsical illustrations as well as written with a witty writing style and humor incorporated. The intention is for professionals to learn something while enjoying the format in which it is presented.

The title “The Devil’s Dictionary” references Ambrose Bierce’s famous The Devil’s Dictionary that first appeared in 1881 skewering the world of politics. The Devil’s Dictionary book’s original authors are Polsinelli real estate and financial services attorneys: Shareholder and Loan Enforcement Practice Chair Brett D. Anders, Senior Partner and Former Bankruptcy Chair James E. Bird, Shareholder David E. Ferguson and Shareholder Dan Flanigan, founder of Polsinelli’s Financial Services and Real Estate Department. Ward was later added as an editor and was the driving force behind turning The Devil’s Dictionary into an iTunes app.

Polsinelli’s national bankruptcy and financial restructuring lawyers boast decades of restructuring and bankruptcy experience across the country in a cost-efficient manner while addressing client concerns in distressed situations. The Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Practice has earned state-wide rankings from Chambers USA (2018), as well as for several individual attorneys in the practice. Last month, the practice was recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Law Firms” 2019 list with its top Tier 1 ranking in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization.
