Harding specializes in helping U.S. clients with European interests comply with privacy obligations, new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rules
DENVER (Aug. 27, 2018) – International privacy attorney Elizabeth (Liz) Harding has joined Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli as a shareholder in its Denver office. She is a member of the firm’s nationally recognized Technology Transactions & Data Privacy practice, which was designated a Cybersecurity Leader on BTI Consulting Group’s 2017 Law Firms Best at Cybersecurity list.
Harding specializes in data privacy, advertising, and technology licensing matters and is certified to practice law in both Colorado and the United Kingdom (U.K.). She brings more than twenty years’ experience specializing in European Union (EU) privacy and technology matters, with particular expertise in navigating the U.K.’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the more recent EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rules that went in effect this past May.
“The European Union currently has some of the strongest privacy rules in the world, which have a tremendous impact on companies of all sizes that conduct business and manage data of EU citizens,” said Greg Kratofil, Jr., a shareholder and chair of the Technology Transactions & Data Privacy practice at Polsinelli. “Liz is a powerhouse because of her dual licensure and substantial knowledge of both EU and U.S. data privacy and security requirements. She will be a great asset to our already significant privacy and cybersecurity team as we help our clients understand and comply with this fast-developing area of law.”
Harding excels in counseling clients on their technology transactions in connection with third party data transfer, vendor and advertising tech agreements. She is well-versed in transactional and operational matters with a particular focus on media sales and advertising technology. Harding has experience with cable, broadcasting, advertising and entertainment clients and beyond to industries including healthcare, hotels, hospitality and retail.
“Technology and cybersecurity are supremely dynamic industries, and companies involved in managing information must be nimble and ready to interpret a rapidly changing regulatory environment,” Harding said. “I am excited to join the team at Polsinelli where the culture matches my own client-centric focus with an emphasis on internal partnership rather than competition.”
According to BTI, Polsinelli is one of 30 law firms that clients identify as leading the charge in cybersecurity. Polsinelli teams attorneys with both data privacy and industry-specific experience to counsel clients on privacy regulations including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act, as well as numerous state privacy laws. With the addition of Harding to the team, Polsinelli bolsters its already significant experience counseling clients to comply with their EU privacy obligations. This includes a particular focus on response to and implementation of regulatory changes arising out of the GDPR, PECR and Brexit.
“Technology has diminished the impact of borders on international business communications, but the regulations and security requirements for compliance and safety have become more complex,” said Jennifer Evans, office managing partner for Polsinelli in Denver. “Liz’s experience will be a great benefit to our clients and we welcome her as part of our ongoing, strategic growth strategy in Colorado. Liz adds significant international experience to our coast-to-coast privacy and cybersecurity practice, and is a fantastic addition to our collaborative, nationally recognized team known for exceptional client outcomes.”
Harding joins Polsinelli from Holland & Hart. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association and the Law Society of England and Wales.
