Jennifer Evans, Denver office managing partner and shareholder at Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli, was selected by Law Week Colorado as a 2018 Lawyer of the Year. Law Week Colorado selected just five Colorado attorneys who stand out within their firms – and in a crowd – in the legal excellence they display from across practice areas.
Evans’ practice area is health care and she specializes in fraud and abuse, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues and regulatory compliance matters. She has dedicated her career to making a positive impact on Colorado’s health care system and fostering excellence in the state’s legal and health care communities.
“I have been lucky to have great colleagues and opportunities over the course of my career that have given me the ability to represent my wonderful clients in the health care industry,” said Evans. “This kind of recognition humbles me, but it’s also great validation that my hard work is beneficial to those I represent and for that I thank the judges, staff and editor at Law Week Colorado.”
Evans’ leadership at Polsinelli has helped the firm earn recognition as “Law Firm of the Year” in Health Care by U.S. News & World Report in its 2018 “Best Law Firms” list. U.S. News & World Report recognizes just one law firm in each practice area to earn the prestigious “Law Firm of the Year” designation, highlighting that firm’s impressive overall performance from research and methodology. This is the second time in the last four years Polsinelli has been recognized in health care.
In addition to playing a leadership role in the firm’s health care practice and overseeing managing operations in Denver, Evans has shepherded the firm’s rapid, strategic growth locally throughout fiscal year 2018. Starting the year with 65 attorneys in Denver, Evans helped recruit 26 talented attorneys by fiscal year end on October 31, 2018. Additions included a new Global Franchise and Supply Network practice, expansion of its International Privacy and Technology group and a new Food, Beverage and Consumer Goods industry group to enhance the firm’s Venture Capital and Emerging Growth Companies practice.
New lawyers in Denver also included intellectual property, labor and employment, commercial litigation, corporate and transactional and health care law attorneys. Polsinelli servers clients in Denver at the new 23-story, 306,000-square-foot building at 1401 Lawrence Street where it is the anchor tenant.
Evans was recently selected by Colorado Governor Elect Polis to serve on the Boldly Forward transition committee in the area of health care. The committee is charged with examining opportunities to improve how state government works and recruiting the best talent available to serve the Polis Administration. Evans has also served on the National Governors' Association Center for Best Practices working group on Health Information Technology and Exchange, and has experience representing nonprofit and for profit health care organizations before Congress and CMS. She also is a former legislative assistant for health care and legislative director in the U.S. Senate.
As the first female attorney named as office managing partner for Polsinelli in Denver, Evans has served on the Board of Directors and currently sits on the firm’s Finance and Compensation Committees.
Evans is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and serves on the planning committee for its annual conference on Medicare and Medicaid Reimbursement. Evans was selected for inclusion in the AHLA Pro Bono Champions class in 2012. She was also recognized by the Denver Business Journal as an Outstanding Woman in Business in 2016.
Prior to leading the firm’s Denver office for Polsinelli, Evans was deputy director of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, the single state agency responsible for administering Medicaid and the Child Health Plan Plus programs. At HCPF, she served as office director for administration and operations with responsibility for audit, procurement, program integrity, coordination of benefits, privacy, provider enrollment, claims payment, operations, and information technology, including health information technology.
Evans believes in using her skills to better serve the community. She has been honored with board and leadership positions at a variety of renowned organizations including the Denver Public Schools Foundation Board, The Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and Go Red For Women. Evans has also dedicated hundreds of pro bono hours for Rocky Mountain Cares, an HIV/AIDS advocacy group whose mission is to ensure everyone living with HIV/AIDs has access to the most appropriate and adequate care available.
