Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli and the KC Tech Council have arranged for a historic unveiling of the Virgin Hyperloop One XP-1 pod at the American Royal World Series of Barbecue®. Kansas City is one of a limited number of cities included in Virgin Hyperloop One’s United States XP-1 roadshow.
This summer, Virgin Hyperloop One unveiled its national roadshow to bring its XP-1 hyperloop pod to communities across the country and start a dialogue about the power of this new form of mass transportation.
Polsinelli and the KC Tech Council have planned for the pod to be previewed at a private event for sponsors and the Kansas City tech community on Friday, Sept. 13, and then to be displayed for public viewing on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
Polsinelli Shareholder Greg Kratofil, Jr., Chair of the firm’s Technology Transactions & Data Privacy Practice, and Ryan Weber, KC Tech Council president, have been instrumental in securing Kansas City’s as a focal point for Virgin Hyperloop One’s U.S. certification and testing efforts.
“As a technology attorney, I am excited to help present an exclusive look at the technology behind Virgin Hyperloop One and help facilitate a discussion of the possibilities it can bring--not only to Kansas City but across the country,” said Kratofil. “I regularly make that drive from Kansas City to St. Louis and the ability to do that faster and safer would be a game changer for Missouri. We are proud to partner with Virgin Hyperloop One and give Kansas Citians a first look at this cutting-edge technology.”
The XP-1 hyperloop pod that will be on display is the same vehicle that completed the world’s first full-system hyperloop test in 2017, reaching historic test speeds of over 240 miles per hour. This was the first time any company had integrated all of the components of a hyperloop; including a highly efficient motor, power electronics, magnetic levitation, vacuum pumping systems, and an aerodynamic vehicle as a single unified system.
Virgin Hyperloop One CEO Jay Walder will be present during the American Royal World Series of Barbecue® weekend.
“The Kansas City to St. Louis route is in the running to be the world’s first hyperloop system, so we’re excited to be able to bring our technology to the people to see for themselves,” said Walder. “We’ve seen tremendous progress in the region and look forward to working with our local partners to further advance the project.”
On Saturday, Sept. 14, better known as “Smokin’ Saturday,” the XP-1 vehicle will be on display in the center of the Kansas Speedway, alongside other family-friendly programming like live music, BBQ demos, food trucks, a classic car show, and the Cowtown Family Fun Fest. The vehicle will be viewable starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Kansas Speedway (400 Speedway Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66111). Tickets can be found here.
“We’re excited to prominently display this emerging technology at one of the largest and most historic events in Kansas City,” said Weber. “Most of the world knows us for great BBQ. Someday, they could very well know us for building the first hyperloop system in the United States of America.”
