Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli congratulates Attorney Teresa L. Anderson for her selection as a recipient of Missouri Lawyers Media’s 2021 Women’s Justice Awards. Anderson is among five Missouri attorneys recognized with the Pro Bono Award for significantly contributing effort and time to pro bono work.
Anderson, a trial attorney and former criminal defense lawyer, handles family court appointments as well as family law preparation and disposition at Polsinelli. Her work primarily includes allegations of abuse and neglect of children in Jackson County, Mo. Anderson has been a pro bono attorney for 20 years and has served a multitude of different clients and committed hundreds of hours to pro bono work in a variety of cases including guardianship, custody, civil suits and landlord/tenant disputes.
“Teresa is an incredible representative of Polsinelli and inspires others around her to do good and give back to the community by the example she sets. Teresa has positively impacted Polsinelli attorneys as she encourages others to take on pro bono cases,” said Mary Jane Judy, Kansas City Co-Office Managing Partner. “She’s incredibly passionate about assisting people who otherwise could not afford an attorney and is always sincerely grateful to help others. We congratulate her for this prestigious honor.”
Anderson’s pro bono efforts have been recognized by others. In 2019, she received the prestigious Robert C. Welch Volunteer Attorney Project Award for her outstanding commitment to the delivery of pro bono legal services in the Kansas City metro community. She was recognized for her surpassing dedication to the Volunteer Attorney Project (VAP) program, which she has served for over 20 years. Anderson also received a Pro Bono Certificate of Appreciation from the Kansas Bar Association (KBA) in 2021, and was honored for her dedication in handling domestic cases for the KBA. Anderson was named a Pro Bono Champion by Counselor Magazine in 2019 for her service.
“I am honored to be recognized by Missouri Lawyers Media for my pro bono service, something that is near and dear to my heart and work that I am both proud of and passionate about,” said Anderson. “What I find most rewarding about assisting people who cannot afford their own attorney is that they are so grateful for the help. It makes you feel like you really did something special for someone who really deserved it.”
