Polsinelli is pleased to announce that Counsel Catherine (Cat) Kozlowski has been selected as a 2022 "Best LGBTQ+ Lawyer Under 40" award winner by The National LGBTQ+ Bar Association.

The award recognizes 40 LGBTQ+ legal professionals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and have demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality. The National LGBTQ+ Bar is an association of lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, law students, activists and affiliated LGBTQ+ legal organizations committed to promoting justice in and through the legal profession for the LGBTQ+ community in all its diversity. Kozlowski will be recognized at the 2022 Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair in Los Angeles on July 27-29, 2022.

“Cat is a staunch advocate for LGBTQ+ equality as well as a leader in both the legal profession and business community,” said Polsinelli Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer Philip G. Hampton, II. “Not only has Cat built a successful legal career for herself at the firm, she is a tireless advocate for the LGBTQ+ community as she Co-Chairs our LGBTQ+ Resource Group and works to increase visibility of the LGBTQ+ community within our firm and the community around her.”

With more than a decade of legal experience, both at firms and as an in-house legal consultant, and with clients ranging from small retail companies to billion-dollar health systems, Kozlowski is committed to providing practical legal advice in the constantly evolving health care industry. She works to anticipate challenges and roadblocks faced by modern health systems, and develop innovative methods to navigate these hurdles before they become costly problems. Her practice focuses primarily on providing strategic counsel on issues related to operational and transactional matters, HIPAA and state privacy laws, and practical requirements for interfacing the medical staff with hospital operations.

Since becoming Co-Chair of the firm’s LGBTQ+ Resource Group alongside Shareholder Spencer R. Wood, Kozlowski has helped implement the firm’s first month-long communications campaign celebrating Pride, launched the firm’s inaugural online recruiting event geared toward LGBTQ+ law students and worked with the firm’s HR department to advocate for expansion of benefits for gender-affirming health care services. She serves on the LGBTQ+ Resource Group’s strategic planning committee, collaborates with co-chairs of the firm’s other affinity groups to advance intersectional initiatives, and is helping plan the firm’s inaugural minority attorney retreat.

“I am incredibly honored to be recognized for this award as it incorporates both my personal and professional life,” said Kozlowski. “I am grateful that Polsinelli continues to create an inclusive environment so that everyone feels comfortable to bring their most authentic selves to the workplace.”

Polsinelli recently earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index, the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality, for the fourth consecutive year. The firm also recently achieved the Mansfield Rule 4.0 Certification Plus, which measures diversity in law firms and aims to boost diversity in leadership.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are among the core values of Polsinelli, used to inform, enlighten and shape strategy and actions that define the firm’s business. Polsinelli defines diversity to include people from various ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability and socio-economic backgrounds, and defines equity as providing every employee with the skills, support and encouragement that they need to become their best selves, both within and outside the workplace. The firm defines inclusion as the comprehensive, coordinated and complete integration of all persons across the various sectors of its business enterprise as contributors, leaders and agents of change.
