Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli has expanded its national Venture Capital & Emerging Growth Companies Practice with a new team of six attorneys, led by Shareholders Matthew S. Eckert and Prithvi Tanwar.
The new group, which has worked together for several years providing full-service legal counsel to early- and growth-stage technology-based companies, is located in Polsinelli’s Boston office and is part of the firm’s growth initiative in the market. In addition to Eckert and Tanwar, Jeremy Arak, Mark A. Cloutier, Daniel P. DeConinck and Kathryn Manza Pasinski join the firm as associates.
“We are pleased to have Matt, Prithvi and this venture capital and emerging companies group join our national practice, further strengthening our seasoned team of attorneys who regularly counsel entrepreneurs, capital investors and their companies throughout the lifecycles of their businesses,” said Venture Capital & Emerging Growth Companies Practice Co-Chair Rick Jordan. “Both Matt and Prithvi have deep experience advising their startup and seasoned clients on the full range of subject matters they require, including outside general counsel, corporate finance and merger and acquisitions. We are thrilled to have two of the top venture capital attorneys in the greater Boston metro join the Polsinelli team.”
About a decade ago, Eckert and Tanwar started their practice at the ground level, working with early-stage and growth-stage technology companies, growing it organically alongside their clients’ businesses to the established and expanding practice it is today. Eckert and Tanwar have collaborated on the representation of hundreds of companies, working closely with founders as they progress their businesses from the startup phase through the highs and lows of their development journey, including increasingly sophisticated financing transactions and ultimately exits. As the team has grown, it has remained centered around the objective of providing high-value and high-involvement general counsel to help their clients frame practical decision making, with an emphasis on the efficiency that maturing and often resource constrained businesses require.
A leading authority on venture capital law, Eckert advises entrepreneurs through the full spectrum of issues early and growth stage companies encounter, including providing strategic advice in the transactional contexts of corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions, as well as the broad array of issues that arise in the course of growing and operating businesses. Eckert has also advised numerous venture funds in connection with their portfolio investment activities.
For the past three years, Eckert has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America in Venture Capital Law and is a seven-time Massachusetts Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in the Securities & Corporate Finance category. Eckert completed his undergraduate education at Hobart College before obtaining a JD, cum laude, and MBA with high honors from Boston University in 2003.
Tanwar’s practice focuses on advising entrepreneurs, startups and high-growth companies throughout their lifecycles, from general corporate matters and tech startup issues, to financing and exit events, and everything in between. He brings experience working with domestic and foreign venture capital firms and angel investors on financing transactions with their portfolio companies. Prior to his career in law, he advised Fortune 500 clients as a management and technology consultant, leading implementations of information technology solutions and refining business processes.
Tanwar obtained his B.S., summa cum laude, from Drake University before earning a J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He is a five-time Massachusetts Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in the Business & Corporate Law category.
