Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli continues its financial services litigation expansion with new Atlanta attorney John Michael Kearns, who joins as Counsel. Kearns also becomes a member of Polsinelli’s national Financial Services Litigation Practice
Kearns focuses his practice on the representation of financial institutions in real estate litigation, consumer finance litigation and foreclosure litigation. He regularly represents financial institutions and other businesses in dozens of venues across the state of Georgia in state and federal courts.
“We are glad to continue the growth of our Financial Services Litigation Practice with John Michael and continue the momentum of deepening our bench of attorneys from coast to coast,” said Financial Services Litigation Practice Chair Brett Anders. “John Michael brings added depth with his representation of financial institutions, as well as years of appellate experience in Georgia courts of appeals, to further strengthen our capabilities in the region.”
Kearns joins Polsinelli’s national Financial Services Litigation Practice, which is one of the largest creditors’ rights practices in the nation with lawyers who have practiced for more than 30 years in state and federal courts and bankruptcy courts in more than 40 states. Earlier this year, Polsinelli added five attorneys to the Practice, including Brendan I. Herbert (Miami), Aaron Wagner (Seattle), Marc D. Cabrera (Dallas), and Gwendolyn (Wendy) J. Godfrey (Atlanta) as shareholders, and Robert H. King (New York City).
Kearns leverages experience in all aspects of litigation, including case pleading, motions practice, discovery, settlement negotiation and trial. He has extensive appellate experience representing financial institutions in the Georgia courts of appeals, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
“Polsinelli’s growing client demand for financial services litigation work is not only an indication of the firm’s growth, but also demonstrates the firm’s ongoing commitment to providing outstanding client service,” said Kearns. “I am excited to be part of this dynamic and impressive team of financial services litigators and look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to further progress this momentum.”
Kearns obtained a B.A. in Political Science from Emory University and earned a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
Kearns becomes the second new Financial Services Litigation attorney to join Polsinelli’s Atlanta office
this year, accompanying Shareholder Wendy Godfrey, who started earlier this month. The firm’s Atlanta attorneys represent prominent national and local clients with legal needs that fall into the areas of complex litigation, health care, real estate and white collar and internal investigations.
