The Chicago Farmers elected Polsinelli Shughart PC Attorney Brian C. Shea its as president effective May 10, 2010. Shea has a deep understanding of the farming industry, having represented small and large scale farmers in various financial transactions including buying, selling and leasing agricultural properties across the Midwest.
“When you get down to basics, The Chicago Farmers is instrumental in assisting agribusinesses to work together to help feed the world,” said Shea, who has been managing his wife’s family owned farm in Indiana for 30 years. “I’m honored to be part of an organization with such a deep history in Illinois and committed to the promotion of agriculture.”
The Chicago Farmers is a nonprofit organization, formed in 1935, committed to providing current information on agriculture to its members through educational programs. The group is composed of farmland investors, farmers, commodity traders, agribusiness leaders, farm management professionals, real estate consultants, and those from other affiliated businesses. Issues facing farmers in 2010 include environmental regulations, government-mandated policies, farmland business and estate planning, climate changes’ effect on farm policy, land values, and financing farm operations.
“One of my goals is to maintain the high quality of the educational programs in order to keep the farming community abreast and ahead of all the challenges and changes they are facing,” said Shea. “Information is a powerful tool, and many times the key to solutions impacting farmers.”
Shea has been involved in The Chicago Farmers for more than 10 years, having served previously as vice president and director before being elected president. He has practiced law in Illinois for nearly 25 years, and earned his J.D. and M.B.A. from Loyola University Chicago, and his B.S. from Northwestern University. His primary law practice includes assisting clients with matters involving commercial banking and real estate finance, commercial, industrial, retail and multifamily real estate transactions, general business matters and corporate law. He is listed in Leading Lawyers in Illinois and Illinois Super Lawyers, and is AV® Preeminent Rated™ Martindale Hubbell.
