The Real Estate and Development (RED) Awards selected Polsinelli Shughart PC for its Best Tenant Improvement Project, Honorable Mention, for 2011 during the annual awards ceremony at the Ritz Carlton in Phoenix February 22, 2011. Gensler & Associates, a global, architectural, design and consulting firm created the modern office space for Polsinelli Shughart featuring clean lines, strong geometry, precise alignments, open spaces and a contemporary feel.
“We are very pleased to have been selected for this prestigious award,” said Phoenix Office Managing Partner Ed Novak. “Our clients love the open and modern feel. Gensler's design not only provides a sophisticated atmosphere but also space for our continued growth. It was a pleasure to collaborate with them.”
The RED Awards are Arizona's most comprehensive annual real estate awards. The biggest, best and most notable commercial real estate projects and transactions for the previous year are honored each year. Awards are given to developers, general contractors, architect and broker teams.
“The most successful projects are the result of close collaboration with the client, contractor and designer,” said Gensler Principal Designer Beth Harmon-Vaughn. “This project is an excellent example of a thoughtful design, well-executed by the contractor, a direct result of the client’s input and attention throughout the process. Polsinelli Shughart’s leadership was essential to assure that the design details meet their specific needs that resulted in great value for their investment.”
Similar to the development of the firm’s Denver office in LoDo, Polsinelli Shughart was committed to utilizing sustainable materials in its Phoenix office. Some of the sustainable uses suggested by Gensler’s design team used in the new space include:
• Using reclaimed north facing oak from old barns in the Ohio River Valley as the primary wood
• Warm reclaimed oak flooring which greets guests and directs clients to the reception
• Oversized pivot doors of the conference rooms which bring additional emphasis on this important material selection
• Reinforcing the theme throughout the entire space, as all attorney doors are made from the oak veneer, which was installed in a horizontal graining pattern
In addition, the design team developed a design that left the corners of the floor plan open and used custom glass in the doors of each of the perimeter private offices, allowing natural light into the interior. Legal assistant’s workstations are positioned at the corners of the floors to allow for access to dramatic exterior views. The firm occupies nearly 70,000 square feet on three floors, and more than ten percent of the building’s 600,000 square feet of Class A office space.
