The Delaware office of national law firm Polsinelli Shughart PC, one of the nation’s fastest growing law firms, has doubled its office space in downtown Wilmington to accommodate the growth in its bankruptcy and financial restructuring business and there are current plans to expand corporate law, litigation and intellectual property capabilities.

“Since opening the Delaware office in 2008, we have significantly grown our financial services practice by focusing on all aspects of national cases involving bankruptcy and financial restructuring issues,” said Christopher A. Ward, managing shareholder of Polsinelli Shughart-Wilmington and vice chair of Polsinelli Shughart’s Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring practice group. “But in 2012, we also will provide clients a broader spectrum of services in corporate matters, including business litigation, intellectual property and other business transactions.”

The expansion of the Delaware office occurs during an exciting period of overall growth for Polsinelli Shughart. The firm has recently opened new offices in Dallas and Los Angeles, and The National Law Journal ranked Polsinelli Shughart in 2011 as “the third fastest growing law firm in the country.”

Polsinelli Shughart in Delaware, which opened its doors four years ago with Ward as the only attorney, has grown to six attorneys and now occupies nearly 9,000 square feet on the 11th floor of 222 Delaware Avenue. Among its business amenities are four state-of-the-art conference rooms with video conferencing for clients and outside counsel.

“We expect continued growth in our office’s established financial services practice since Delaware, along with New York, will continue to be a major center for bankruptcy filings,” Ward said. “We are excited about the ability to serve our clients’ and future prospects’ expanded business needs that today’s complex legal environment is generating.”

Nationally, Polsinelli Shughart’s Financial Services department helps connect clients to regional, national, and international financial markets and products. The firm’s attorneys represent lenders and borrowers in virtually every phase of finance relationships. Transactions documented and closed by attorneys in the group include real estate and other commercial loans, equipment financing, securitization, asset-based lending, syndicated lending facilities, cash flow lending and loans involving non-traditional collateral.

Polsinelli Shughart’s Wilmington attorneys, in addition to acting as primary counsel to the firm’s clients in matters pending in Delaware, focus on serving as Delaware local counsel, conflicts counsel, avoidance action/contingency fee counsel, special counsel and claims administration counsel in various matters pending before the Delaware courts.

In the past year, attorneys in the Delaware office have served as counsel to several debtors and committees, as well as been very active in bankruptcy litigation. In particular, it has served as:

§ Lead counsel to the official committee of unsecured creditors in Open Range Communications,

§ Delaware bankruptcy and conflicts counsel to Coach America and its affiliated chapter 11 debtors,

§ Lead counsel to Signature Styles (Spiegel Brands) in its chapter 11 case, which included the sale of substantially all of the debtors' assets and confirmation of a joint liquidating plan, and

§ Special conflicts and litigation counsel to Indianapolis Downs, a racino located in Shelbyville, Indiana.
