National law firm Polsinelli Shughart PC today announced that attorney George Jackson III has joined the Chicago office as a shareholder in the firm’s Trial department group focusing on business litigation, government investigations and white-collar criminal defense.

Jackson counsels clients concerning a wide variety of compliance and regulatory issues to assist clients in avoiding enforcement actions and litigation.

Jackson has counseled corporations and individuals in a wide range of complex business and commercial litigation matters, including public corruption, healthcare fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations, employer immigration issues, ITAR and export enforcement, securities and bank fraud, and regulatory and compliance matters. He has conducted numerous corporate internal investigations, represented clients in state and federal grand jury investigations, provided representation in class action claims, ERISA disputes, trade secret violations, trusts and estates, and product defense matters.

Prior to entering private law, Jackson served as an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Criminal Division of the Northern District of Illinois, where he prosecuted approximately 30 jury trials and conducted extensive hearings before federal judges and U.S. magistrate judges.

“George is an extremely skillful lawyer and a great addition to our growing Chicago office,” said Anthony J. Nasharr, managing director of the Chicago office. “His years of practical legal experience, including work with the U.S. prosecutor’s office, will greatly complement our Trial department.”

Jackson said he was pleased to join “a growing, national firm that – coupled with a reputation for sharing litigation risks with clients – is a perfect fit for my client base and the growth of my practice.”

“I was drawn to Polsinelli Shughart because of its fine reputation as a premier litigation firm with excellent attorneys. It is a dynamic, exciting place to be with unusually high energy, a commitment to excellence and generating innovative, creative solutions for clients. I’m very proud to be a part of this legal team,” he added.

Jackson serves on the executive board of the Chicago Legal Clinic, running at least three marathons each year to raise funds for the Clinic, which annually provides legal services to more than 16,000 low-income families and individuals. He is the former Chicago Commissioner of Small Fry International Basketball, and remains actively involved in that organization that provides mentoring and recreation to inner city youth.

Jackson completed his J.D. studies in 1984 at Chicago-Kent College of Law after only 2 ½ years and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University in 1982. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Cook County Bar Association and the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, where he currently serves as its secretary.

Jackson has appeared on television and radio and in print media throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe speaking on high profile prosecution, including Bernard Madoff, Conrad Black, Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. William J. Jefferson. Jackson would be an excellent source for reporters working on stories about:

• White-collar defense issues
• Corporate internal investigative matters
• Complex business and commercial litigation matters
