Polsinelli Announces Leadership and Restructuring Changes

Firm aligns organization with two new departments and leaders; Doubles number of departments in 2017

Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli announced today an internal restructuring, creation of two new departments, and named a new leader of its Real Estate & Financial Services Department.

Effective Nov. 1, the firm will elevate its Health Care and Labor & Employment practice groups to departments, recognizing the vast experience and capabilities of attorneys in these key practices. The same day, longtime Shareholder Kraig Kohring will become the firm’s new Chair of the Real Estate & Financial Services Department, which has more than 170 attorneys.

The Health Care and Labor & Employment departments, which are the firm’s fifth and sixth departments, will align with the firm’s existing Business, Litigation, Real Estate & Financial Services, and Intellectual Property Departments. The restructuring provides increased client opportunities and demonstrates a growing client focus on these services.

“Health Care and Labor & Employment are key practices of our firm,” said Polsinelli Chairman and CEO Russ Welsh. “Elevating them to departments affirms our commitment to build greater depth and breadth in these strategic services areas and industries in which we already have a strong reputation. This realignment will advance our ability to collaborate across the country and better serve our clients.”

Kohring has chaired Polsinelli’s Financial Services division for more than two years, and has also served as head of the Commercial Lending, Capital Markets and Project Finance practices for more than 15 years. He will use his strong background in financial services, commercial and asset-based lending, and structured financial transactions to serve as Chair of the Real Estate & Financial Services Department.

“Kraig is a natural leader and exceeded our expectations heading our Financial Services division for many years,” Welsh said. “His business-focused approach is highly regarded amongst his colleagues, peers and clients, and we know he will continue to receive recognition as he leads our Real Estate & Financial Services Department.”

Chicago-based Shareholder Matthew J. Murer, who has chaired the Health Care practice for six years, will become the Health Care Department Chair. Atlanta-based Shareholder Nancy E. Rafuse, who has chaired the Labor & Employment practice for three years, will become the Labor & Employment Department Chair.

Ranked as the nation’s second largest health care practice by AHLA last year, Polsinelli’s Health Care practice has become a national leader in providing a full-range of health care law services. Polsinelli’s Health Care team of approximately 185 attorneys has a wealth of experience in the business and delivery of health care, and includes former in-house counsel of national health care institutions, the Office of Inspector General, and former U.S. Attorneys and Assistant U.S. Attorneys with direct experience in health care fraud investigations.

Polsinelli’s Labor & Employment practice, which was has placed in the top five percent of all firms in Labor and Employment in BTI’s 2017 Litigation Outlook and a National Tier 1 practice by U.S. News and World Report's "Best Law Firms," is comprised of more than 60 attorneys nationwide who focus on workplace development and compliance, class actions and the full range of employment litigation and labor law matters. The team represents employers all of sizes, including Fortune 500 corporations and privately-owned entrepreneurial firms.
