Polsinelli Adds Group of Preeminent Food, Beverage and Consumer Goods Attorneys

Chuck Cotter to lead Food, Beverage and Consumer Goods industry group to expand the firm’s Venture Capital and Emerging Growth Companies practice

Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli strengthened its national Venture Capital and Emerging Growth Companies practice with the addition of three recognized attorneys, Chuck Cotter, Finity Jernigan and Christie DiNapoli. Based in the firm’s Denver office, and with an eventual Boulder presence, the team brings experience to the firm’s nationally-preeminent practice with their focus on food, beverage and consumer goods clients.

Chuck Cotter, who joined as shareholder, has 14 years of legal experience focused on counseling these and other companies at all stages of growth, from start-ups to ready-to-exit, helping them successfully raise capital, complete acquisitions and divestitures, and comply with regulatory requirements.

“Chuck is a tremendous trusted advisor who has built a national reputation in the food, beverage and consumer goods industries because of his ability to help clients achieve their goals at all stages of growth – from raising capital, executing acquisitions and divestitures, or complying with regulatory requirements,” said Adam Hull, national co-chair of the firm’s Venture Capital and Emerging Growth group.

“Chuck and his team complement the firm’s national venture capital, corporate and transactional, tax and intellectual property practices and will benefit our clients from Palo Alto to Boston,” added Rick Jordan, who co-chairs the firm’s Venture Capital and Emerging Growth group with Hull.

Cotter has received national and local recognition for his work, including winning the 2017 Law360 MVP Award in Food & Beverage. He was named among the Colorado Super Lawyers® Rising Stars from 2014 to 2017, and was recognized as BizWest Boulder Valley 40 Under Forty Leaders in 2015.

Prior to joining the Polsinelli team, Cotter served as a partner in the Boulder office of a regional law firm where he led its Food, Beverage and Consumer Products Group. He also previously practiced in New York at two leading Wall Street law firms.

Cotter’s deal experience ranges from sales of small private companies to mergers of large publicly-listed companies across borders, including going-private transactions. He also helps funds, growth-oriented clients and entrepreneurs determine the best ways to reach their personal and corporate objectives.

“I believe in business-practical legal advice that treats clients as partners and not as transactions,” Cotter said. “Polsinelli shares this belief, and its national reputation, reach and team will help us continue to grow our food, beverage and consumer products group.”

Cotter earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his bachelor’s degree from Vassar College. He is a director of Worldbuilders Inc. and a former director of Naturally Boulder and The Growe Foundation. He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado Law School.
